NECK, SHOULDER, ARM AND HAND SYNDROME

Many people experience pain which starts in the neck and travels down the arm, often as far down as the hand.  Sometimes there is neck pain and pain at the top of the shoulder area, but the sensation further down the arm is tingling or numbness.  The collective term for combined pain and tingling/numbness is “paresthesia”. The cause of this is often displacement of bones (vertebrae) in the neck which “pinches” major nerves, and chiropractic adjustments may be done to correct such displacement.  Other times, there is entrapment of nerves below the neck in muscles of the shoulder, arm or wrist.  This type of entrapment (also called “clumping” of muscles) can be effectively treated with Manual Myofascial Therapy (MMT).  The problem can also be a combination of displacement of neck vertebrae as well as muscle clumping anywhere from the shoulder to the wrist and hand.  Dr. Fry routinely checks all of the potential sites where nerve entrapment (pinched nerve) occurs, and treats all involved areas accordingly.
